2024 Fiano
Bright and lifted aromas of lemon zest, white florals and hints of sea spray. Refreshing with delicate flavours of citrus and white stone fruits, the palate has a lovey texture with great drive and a moreish finish.
Fiano comes from two distinct vineyards owned by the Laceys. One in the Tatachilla sub region of southern McLaren Vale. Only a few kilometres from the sea and almost at sea level, it is a cool maritime influenced area of the Vale. Sandy loam over a limestone base, scattered with ironstone fragments. The other in the Seaview sub region, more northern, inland and elevated sitting on ancient 700 million year old limestone. Grapes were machine harvested using a selectiv® harvester that destems as it picks delivering whole berries to the winery, these were tipped straight into a press. Cool slow tank fermentation was carried out with half the juice, while the other half was wild fermented in seasoned oak. Matured on lees for 4 months prior to bottling. No acid additions, no fining.
12.5% Alc/Vol
“This is a fine expression of the gape, picked at just the right moment and made adroitly. Crisp golden apple, nashi, lemon zest, celery salt, a hint of makrut lime and fresh jalapeño. There’s a mineral clarity to the wine, subtle savouriness and texture from half seeing old oak fermentation/maturation, with twin stewards of fine acidity and pithiness bringing things to a close. Just gorgeous.”
